Friday, November 16, 2007 - In an attempt to make this review PG rated for families, I will use one word to describe this wine...crap. The Chicago Wine Company was selling a mixed case of Colonial Estate wines and the price was too good to believe...you know the old adage, if it looks like a duck? Obviously the distributor knew this was...crap...and dumped it on TCWC. I just hope the other Colonial wines in the case will not follow suit. The wine is cloudy and throwing a big sediment, odd for a two and a half year old wine. There is definitely a fermentation going on in the bottle, you can see and taste the spritz. It does not appear to be and ML though because the wine is chock full of sour acidity, yuck. The nose is almost nonexistent, smelling a little bit like it tastes, sour and nasty. It is like sucking a lemon so there is no fruit or anything else to be tasted, just sour fruit. I have two more bottles which I will try soon to see if this is an aberration. I will be calling Simon at TCWC for a refund. This wine gives the crap I bought from Hewitson a run for its money. Another producer off my buy list and I would recommend you follow suit. I hate to admit it but in this case, the bottles Josh Raynolds and Sir Bob rated were not what I drunk and I agree much more with Harvey at the Speculatory. His 83 is still too high.
