Saturday, June 6, 2015 - Received this from my restaurant after another server's table turned it down after opening because of confusion with the vintage year. Poured almost syrupy, with a deep purple color. Opaque in the glass. Nose of cassis, black cherry, and a satisfying vanilla scent. Chilling complexity. Lingering finish with mocha, savory earth, caramel sweetness, and mild bell pepper. Opened up nicely over the four hours of sipping. Fantastic wine, and I was secretly hoping to come away not impressed, as I usually agree with the typical criticisms of California wine. This was really wonderful, though, and I wish the bottle was given to me unopened so that I could sit on it for at least five more years. An unforgettable treat, the first wine I truly felt as though I was eating instead of drinking. Will seek out older vintages now, where before I never could imagine spending money like this on a Napa cab.
