Sunday, February 12, 2017 - Drank with assorted pastas and filet mignon at MT birthday dinner at Il Pastaio. The nose is very nice. Red and black fruits, flowers and baking spices. On the palate of course there is a lot of fruit given the vintage and the wine. You don't buy Caymus SS for its subtlety (at least I don't). But the issue for me here was that this just wasn't balanced at all. The tannins are not integrated and took away from the experience. It's still enjoyable for sure but I found the 2012 Carter we drank alongside it (didn't catch which specific one) to be far more balanced. Not a great QPR at the moment here.
