Friday, May 11, 2012 - Tasted in double-blind fashion at Vintage Wines, Ltd. This bottle was kindly provided by M. Banker as a tribute to an old friend. The wine was presented in decanter and had been opened a few hours in advance of the tasting. The robe is opaque red/garnet and the moderately intense nose shows black currants, pipe tobacco, pencil shavings and menthol. Full-bodied on the palate, with medium acidity, huge well-integrated tannins, well-integrated alcohol and flavors mirroring the nose. The middle palate is rock-solid and the finish goes on and on. This 26-year-old wine remains youthful! Definitely a blockbuster which is now starting to open. Drink now-12/35.
