Thursday, December 18, 2014 - While many domestic red blends can seem rather alike, this distinctive wine is not of them. It is sure to be a crowd-pleaser; while it wasn't quite to my style, everyone else in the room seemed completely delighted with it.

And I can see some of its merits. A nice and spicy nose, perhaps in part due to the Cabernet Franc in the mix: pepper, mint, and maybe even nutmeg? In the mouth it did a good job of balancing potentially opposing elements; it was smooth but still lively, big but not heavy, and many-layered but integrated. Perhaps it was the easy resolution here that kept me from enjoying it more, a certain lack of tension that would have kept me coming back for another sip.

On the other hand, it is still youthful and could gain some shape and complications of the interesting sort in a few more years.
