94 Points

Monday, December 1, 2014 - I have never understood the label "Super Tuscan," and this wine is billed that way by the makers. But forget that: This is a very nice bottle that is both delicious and interesting. Decanted 30 mins. ahead. Medium-deep garnet color. Very nice nose of earthy spices, black cherries, red fruits. Clear cherry fruit leads over tobacco flavors on the palate in a medium-bodied package that is definitely delicious. It reaches nice acid balance, tart but not by any means too tart. Finishes very well with orange peel, light tannins, and surprising length. It could improve with a couple of years in the bottle. This wine raises the question: Can you be seduced by delicious fruit, complicating spices, and a just-firm-enough acid structure? Some critics can't; for my response, see the number.
