Saturday, January 20, 2024 - This is killer stuff. Nose is still so full of red fruits: cherries, raspberries, currants, but also herbal notes like grape leaf and mint with a gravelly, graphite undertone. So classic and so compelling and still 100% there after 40+ years. Palate is almost a step up from the nose, still juicy and sweet and almost primary with more cherries and a wild strawberry note but there’s some nice secondary and tertiary notes like mushrooms and decaying leaves that give beautiful complexity. Tannins totally resolved, perfect acidity with a strongly minty finish to balance it. So in the zone right now. Perfect match for a pan-seared A5 wagyu strip but probably killer with anything really.
