Friday, March 31, 2017 - Opaque, inky garnet red with some purple on the rim. Clean with medium intensity, developing. Old school with dark fruit, plumb, blackberry, leather, some pepper, licorice, mildly earthy. Dry, tannin high, slightly ripe and a bit grainy, acidity high with high alcohol. On the palate medium intensity, very fruit forward with black cherry, plumb, currants, loads of black pepper and some chocolate liquor, but also a slight tart, slightly bitter edge on the finish which is a bit distracting. This is a big dense wine, very viscous and bold with a long finish that is carried by high alcohol. Overall an excellent wine. I really like the nose. While the palate has nice density it's a little out of balance in my opinion.
