Thursday, April 4, 2019 - Drank over two days - on day 1 I felt this was good but there was a grippy gravely slightly drying finish which meant I was not quite as smitten as day 2. Day 2 the wine was more relaxed and still showed bags and bags of fruit (blueberry) with nuances of tobacco and undergrowth but at present this wine is still mostly primary. Certainly a success for the vintage as usual I dislike 2003s Bdx. They seem to have picked early enough to preserve freshness of the grapes. The tannins are soft and this wine is drinking but hopefully should continue to develop nicely for 10-20 years. The one thing to watch is if the acidity is enough for it to continue to show fresh as I worry I could top over into something more prune like but time will tell. For some reason it reminds me a bit of a Lagrange 05 I had recently in half bottle. So this is not your typical 03. Well done Barton. Better then Poyferré in this vintage imo and possibly also superior to LLC (although the latter was tasted five years back and was showing very monolithic).
