Saturday, May 30, 2015 - All you need to know about why one ages good Bordeaux is in this bottle. Medium light color with moderate bricking on the edge and without much sediment, this Lynch-Bages initially smelled surprisingly like dried cranberry with light dried floral notes, opening up into robust "old wine cellar" with a few minutes of decanting. The initial impression on the palate offers forest floor, old leather and red currant preserves. With time, it woke up and gained a slightly toasted, almost black tea essence on the finish. The wine remains fresh. Boasting a light body and silky texture, the balance is near perfect. So deft and so elegant for a Lynch Bages that seemed tight and burly when young. While at its peak, this wine could last for years. There is no suggestion of dryness or stewed fruit here that points to any decline.
