2012 Viader Cabernet Franc Dare

Saturday, July 18, 2020 - In my opinion, cabernet franc shows best in the Loire, where--due to terroir and/or winemaking philosophy--it is juicy and racy with pungent green aromas and tart red fruit. But this riper-tasting wine has some merit too. The nose is subtle, but pretty, with aromas of mild bell pepper and white pepper, sweet black olives, blackcurrants, and oak. Tannins are fine-grained but firmly present and slightly too strong for the delicate fruit. This might improve over the next two years as the flavors evolve and the tannins soften. 90-91
