Saturday, April 2, 2016 - Potent nose of classic Hermitage with notes of violets, black fruits, camphor, charcoal, wet animal fur, etc. This bottle is quite firm on the palate and a long decant was needed to coax out its deeper flavors. There is beautiful purply black raspberry fruit with strong notes of black pepper and floral spice. Quite silky and pure with plenty of cool-weather acidity and character. The finish is grippy, succulent and moderately tannic with hints of game and leathers but it's still quite young and not showing much secondary flavor development. This is supposed to be an off vintage but I love its long term potential to be a classic Chave. 92+
