Thursday, April 20, 2023 - Tasted double blind from a small capped bottle (full bottles split for a zoom tasting). Nose of carob and nutty - tertiary & fully mature. Coffee or mocha - bitter coffee grounds is a good way. Celery. Palate is coffee and some bitter at start But sweetens and nutty comes out. Finish is a bit boney nutty quite dry and some tobacco. I was able to get the nose as mature BDX. probably from the 80’s but could have been 70’s. Lots of guesses then but others narrowed it to Margaux. Clearly not Palmer or Ch Margaux so someone guessed RS which didn’t seem right to me so I figured it might be Prieur Lichine and was correct. I guessed 83 but in retrospect the nose really shows the quality and luscious nature of the vintage. Really excellent showing and everyone agreed. Nose - 5.5/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 17/20.

Day 2: better last night but didn’t finish the scoring. Still excellent on the nose and palate.
