Saturday, December 14, 2019 - HDH auction at Spiaggia; 12/13/2019-12/14/2019 (Chicago, IL): Nope, still don't understand these wines. Nice red and black fruit with some good Gevrey earth, but also an unpleasant cigarette-ashy herbaceousness that overwhelms everything else that could be nice about it.

The core of fruit is completely ripe, even rich, underneath, but there is an inflection you reference, which mars the pure fruit character and follow through flavor profile, I did not detect this character through 2008 even down to Bourgogne Rouge. Beginning 2009 is when the character became apparent to me. Puzzling.

8/18/2020 9:17:00 PM - WEB,III - thank you for your commentary. I'll have to echo that observation that the pre-2009 Bachelets that I've tasted do not seem to suffer from these ashy green issues either.

8/18/2020 9:34:00 PM - You are welcome. I am optimistic when I open each bottle, but I have noticed many notes on Cellartracker in recent years regarding wines we have in our cellar, including the wine you described, corroborating my impressions. What is puzzling is that I have not heard of or read about similar impressions elsewhere including from those who taste from barrel. Head scratcher.
