94 Points

Friday, September 18, 2015 - Delicious! It is too bad that the cost of their standard Napa Cabernet is at the $125 price point. I have 4 bottles left and I will enjoy them. There are Cabs out there that are just as good (or better) for less money. I have enjoyed these wines, but they have priced themselves out of my league at this time. Too bad. WS gives this vintage 86 Points? I don't like the price gouge, but this wine is one of best Napa Valley Cab's I have tasted from them. I'll say it once more, too bad Larkmead..... Arrivederci!

9/21/2015 8:01:00 AM - Yes, I paid $90 as well, I am on their allocation list, but not for long. I will probably stay on for the 2013 vintage and that will depend on weather or not, they decide to increase the price again. They produce excellent wines and I am especially fond of the 2012 vintage. I considered buying more, but there is too much competition out their to justify paying that much money for their standard Napa Valley Cabernet. If you can, try wines produced by Mike Smith, his 2013 Myriad Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon is the best that I tried for the money. There are still many excellent wines out there that are still reasonably priced and they will get my business.

9/21/2015 8:08:00 AM - Thanks! I actually had a chance to taste with Mike Smith this past June when I was out there and ordered all of his offerings that were in July. I can't wait to try them! I also really enjoyed the tasting I had with Merrill @ EMH Vineyards. If you haven't tried her black cat Cabernet I highly recommend it!

But as you both mention, just too much great juice from Napa at better price points given Larkmead's recent run up. I buy as much of Myriad and Quivet as I can both the cabs and the Rhone styles. We've also tasted with Merrill and like the Black Cat. So many choices - it's a good thing!

9/21/2015 5:16:00 PM - Thanks Tvall13, I will put the 2012 EMH Cabernet Sauvignon Black Cat on the radar. As has been mentioned, there are so many great Napa Cabs out their (Lewis, Drinkward Peschon, Altvs, Neyers Cabernet Sauvignon Neyers Ranch - Conn Valley, Baldacci Family Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Black Label, Mick Smith wines: McGah Family Vineyards "Scarlett", 12c, Myriad, Quivet, Becklyn). And then there are the Beckstoffers, Carter Cellars is my favorite. Not cheap, but for its class, it is competitively priced, consistent and among the best I've tasted. I'll stop now, I'm sounding like a commercial.
