Tuesday, April 24, 2018 - Medium nose with pleasant currant notes, petit verdot showing through, tannins still present but not over powering. Kept thinking over 2 days of sipping, very enjoyable classic Napa cab. Didn't change appreciably over the 2 day stretch. Many choices out there at this price point.

Was this particular bottle and vintage at its optimum drinking point? It probably would be more evolved with secondary characteristics and better integrated tannins with a few more years of age. It was quite enjoyable to me as is and will probably get incrementally better with time.
I also like to sample current new releases before laying down the balance to make sure I like what will be laying in wait and also because curiosity usually gets the better of me. In 2017, I opened up a 2014 Realm The Bard and was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it even though the conventional thought would be to give it another 10-15 years to progress into a more optimum drinking window. I think my choices on what to open are also influenced by the total number of bottles of a given vintage/producer I have access to and storage space limitations. Not too scientific and a little more whimsical.

4/27/2018 8:37:00 AM - I need to do that more. That is drink some of my wines earlier just to see. The problem is that I'm usually only buying 4 to 6 bottles at a time and rarely full case amounts. Some of the modern Napa Cabs are approachable much earlier. I tried one of my 2013 Kobalt Cabs and will it was great I like them with a little more age and softness to them. I had a 2010 Larkmead Cab recently and it's perfect. Enjoy
