Sunday, June 20, 2010 - This was our first 2003. We decanted for maybe an hour. No sign of age in the color. The nose was all bell pepper, not so much lead pencil. In the mouth, it was surprisingly ready to drink. We have a fair bit of experience with 2003 Rhones (mostly ChdP) and those very high alcohol, extracted wines that appear to need drinking sooner rather than later. We haven't had the same sense for Bordeaux, but this was the first of our wines we've had from this vintage and we were struck by the new world style. It was full of fruit, sweet, dark fruits, but not in our mind a traditional Bordeaux. We are anticipating drinking these any time from now on. Parker as usual overstates the drinking window.
