Wednesday, July 6, 2011 - This was like a flirtatious woman that you couldn't quite figure out. Had flashes of brilliance, then would close up and show nothing. Opened 12hrs prior, glass poured off, and kept at cellar temp. When the nose wasn't shy, was lush and inviting, with plum, blackberry, coffee, and cigar box and the faintest hint of orange peel. Palate was dense, smooth and lush, with low acidity, massive concentration, and big chunky tannins that resolved some with more air. Palate showed a similar dark profile, plummy and primary, with cassis highlights along with cedar spice and pipe tobacco. Lengthy flavorful slightly roasted, coffee and gravel finish. Seamless and smooth, with new world, but firmly bdx (if modern style). Very good wine, but only hints at greatness. Needs lots of time. Would argue that this is an '03 that's shut down. 95+ potential.
