Tuesday, August 18, 2015 - Aged for 16 months in 228-liter oak pièces (30% new).

Quite deep and dark cherry red color with a hint of developed maroon hue. The nose feels quite restrained, dark-toned and vaguely furry with aromas of peppery and somewhat cherry-driven Pinosity, a little bit of toasty oak spice, some floral violet tones, a little bit of earthy spice, a sweeter hint of cranberry marmalade and a touch of sappy, herbal greenness. The wine is light-bodied, lively and fresh on the palate with crisp acidity and very tangy flavors of tart berries like lingonberries and cranberries, some dark-toned oak aromatics, a little bit of sour cherry bitterness, light toasty caramel character, a hint of earthy Pinosity and a touch of ripe raspberries. The wine feels pretty structured with its high acidity and somewhat grippy medium tannins. The finish is quite long, tangy and dry with flavors of sour cherry bitterness, earthy spices, some tart cranberries and lingonberries, light brooding oak tones of mocha and toasted wood and a hint of sappy herbal greenness.

A light and very slightly green Burgundy with good intensity and sense of structure. The oak isn't overblown here, but it still sticks out a bit at 4 years of age, suggesting the wine will need some more time in a cellar. The overall style is pretty tart and tangy and the sappy elements most likely aren't going to go anywhere, so if you like ripe and fruity style of Burgundy, skip this wine. However, if you enjoy lighter and leaner style of Pinot Noir, this might turn out quite fine once the oak integrates with the fruit. Probably going to be 8-10 years old or older before hitting its peak, most likely going to keep for much longer. All in all, pretty nice, but I'm not sure if this is really worth the 45,10€ - there are so many great Pinot Noirs outside Burgundy to be had for much reasonable prices.
