90 Points

Thursday, July 26, 2012 - My 2nd and last bottle of the Vintage. I wanted to really love this bottle, but alas, I give that extra point to break into the 90's simply out of respect for the name. An absolutely pleasant bottle, but not the powerhouse I had hoped for all these years. Nothing is overpowering in this wine and I say that in a good and bad way. You want that mature Cab flavor to wash all over your tongue, but the staying power and finish in this wine just isn't there. That said, the nose is pleasant, of cooked fruit, slight chocolate and spice. Fruit is present all the way, but you're left with a short finish, and acidity, instead of the remaining tannins hitting your tongue at the end. Definitely a great bottle of wine, but waiting this long may have been TOO long. Drink this immediately as the community is correct when they say it's past its prime. But then again, maybe i'm too critical as I taste these last sips, and look at those long legs sliding down the side of my glass. It still is a lovely bottle of wine.

I love the winery, but if you put a gun to my head, I have to admit I've never had a truly outstanding wine from them. Never had a bad one either -- I believe the m.o. is to make good and very good wine that will never disappoint a restaurant customer, but won't ever change your life either. I.e., playing it safe.
