Does not like this wine:

82 Points

Wednesday, July 2, 2014 - I’m a die-hard Caymus lover and have been collecting and drinking both the Caymus Napa and Special Selection for some 27 years. I've had the opportunity to taste the 2012 Caymus Napa cabernet on several occasions now and am seriously unimpressed. Instead of approaching this note according to the more-traditional "wine tasting protocol, I've decided to summarize my reactions with the following points:

1) No one who knows Caymus could ever state the 2012 Napa cabernet is in any way “classic” or “typical.” Really now! This wine tastes like no Caymus I’ve ever experienced.
2) Specifically, I find it smooth, lighter than usual in body, shallow in fruit and tannin.
3) The drinking experience, with or without decanting and breathing time, is unsophisticated at best --- lacking in fruit, body, complexity and depth of character.
4) The most prominent impression I get from this wine is a strong flavor of VANILLA !!
5) In my well-educated Caymus opinion, the 2012 Napa cabernet is a complete disappointment. Caymus should be ashamed to have delivered such a lackluster effort on this their 40th Anniversary. It’s no wonder they increased quantity and decreased price for this wine --- that might say it all.
6) I can't find any professional reviews as of date of this note, and I can't say I'm surprised. As we all know, when the big wine critics have nothing good to say, they tend to conveniently skip the vintage. While I’m eager to read their reactions --- their silence is deafening.

In summary, this is a Caymus to be avoided. I suggest you invest your "cabernet dollar" elsewhere.

7/3/2014 8:50:00 AM - WINEOTIM: Are you referring to "My Cellar" ? If so, I completely understand your comment. I haven't entered my holdings into this section yet. My actual cellar contains approximately 4,000 bottles: 40% leading CA cabs and meritage with many verticals (e.g. Hillside Select, Bryant,Paul Hobbs, Spottswoode, Insignia, etc.) 40% vertical Bordeaux collections primarily of Lafite, Latour, Margaux, Haut Brion, Mouton Rothchild, Pichon Lalande and Baron, Lynch Bages, etc. and 20% VIntage Champagne, dessert wine, etc. Of course, if it's another problem with my profile, please tell me exactly what it is. Thanks
