80 Points

Friday, April 11, 2008 - Two bottles were drunk with a group of 7 friends, all Musar fans, to accompany duck. Plenty of sediment, so opened and decanted about 2 hours before drinking. There was a definite variation between the two bottles. Both showed considerable signs of browning reflecting their age. The noses were quite different - the first quite fruity, the second a definite hint of nail varnish, but after about 20 minutes in the glass both had a pleasant if not pronounced nose. On the palate, both very drinkable, the first being somewhat smoother and richer, the second less balanced. Reasonable length for this age of Musar. These are certainly not improving any more, although there were mixed feelings about exactly how long these would last. Some thought just a couple more years, others thought as much as 10-20 more years (though I think not). A real experience to try this older vintage of Musar, especially to try two bottles alongside and note the bottle variation.
