Wednesday, December 25, 2019 - Napa Cabernet doesn’t get much better than this - powerful, elegant, layered, and graceful, this has it all (and, at this price, it really should). This is one of the rare Napa 2012s that I think still needs air, since it was inward and linear the first few hours. At about the two hour mark, though, it unfolded into one of the greatest wines I’ve ever tasted.

Dark purple in color and medium in body, the wine offers evocative notes of blackberry, pencil lead, fresh peppercorn, cocoa beans, and dried herbs. The tastes have that classy richness of many Bond wines, but the Harlan adds more depth and viscosity. The flavors run the table from ripe (e.g., boysenberry, fresh strawberry) to savory (e.g., gravel, espresso), with a finish that goes on and on. This wine has incredible tension and generosity, and it should be going strong for at least another five years. 14.5% alcohol.

In a word: wow.
