2013 Mollydooker Shiraz The Boxer

Community Tasting Note

Does not like this wine:

70 Points

Thursday, July 16, 2015 - This was bad, obviously, although not quite bad enough to be fun for its comedic value in a Mystery Science Theatre 3000 fashion, and thus a disappointment on two fronts. It actually comes across varietally identifiable on the entry, with a saline, bacony twist to the fruit which is not quite as slathering as expected; oaked, to be sure, but still at least tasting like oak and not like a creamsicle. Then just when you're saying, "Hmmm..." that's when it gets slathering and goes down the gullet like Manischewitz. It's 16% alcohol which surely contributes to the port-like sweetness but I will admit that wasn't the only thing going on.

I prefer thoughtful comments to diatribes. Winemakers make much effort to create a quality product, if you don't like it, don't buy it again, but don't trash the winemakers.

To criticize him and his review because it's miles from the other reviewers is just laughable. If you don't like his reviews or agree with them, then you don't have to read them.

8/21/2015 6:46:00 PM - It's irresponsible. The wine is not a 70. The reviewer obviously hates the style, and that's fine. But the reviewer knows the style and continues to try?.....and then bashes. Definition of agenda. I would suggest exactly what you did, if the reviewer doesn't like the wine stop buying and reviewing. It's not helpful.

8/22/2015 3:13:00 PM - Do you know that he bought it? , Maybe he just tried it - at a tasting where it was being poured. I haven't had this exact wine, but I've had ones like it, and I think a 70 sounds about right. Don't agree - then try it and post your own review. I couldn't care less if his opinion (and mine) are outliers. There are millions of people who love the Olive Garden and Subway, many more than those who hate it.

I see reviews everyday of these wines from people who love them - I don't take the time to comment and try to convince them they are wrong or that they have an agenda. Maybe Keith hit a nerve?

8/22/2015 3:17:00 PM - 70 points is definitely the wrong score. Based on the note, it seems like it'd be a 50-pointer. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
