Thursday, September 17, 2015 - This is a very popular white wine by the glass in our neck of the woods. To my palate, Albarino always shows a chalky, almost vegetative, briny, lime zest flavor that occasionally can be overdone. This popular, value priced offering is relatively moderate with those distinctive flavors, while maintaining it's typicity, The color is more golden than most white wines. The nose is floral first, then very pungent, earthy, lime pith and peach skin. Crisp, fresh palate of spicy, key lime, tangerine, peach, pear and apricot encompassed in a briny mixture. The typical to Albarino acid is expressive, chalky and quick hitting but somehow still civilized. All those pungent aromas and expressive, fruity, acidic flavors really smooth out for a more mild, orchard fruit orientated finish than you would expect.
