91 Points

Friday, April 2, 2010 - I decanted the wine for 2 hours and met a good friend at a restaurant where both of us brought our bottles blind to the other person. Turns out, he brought a 95 Pahlmeyer Bordeaux blend which I mistook for the 03 Pichon that I brought (assuming the Sommelier didn't screw it up, which both of us first suspected). I was looking for the classic Pauillac lead pencil and cedar which was not present at first, although the Pahlmeyer seemed to have it nailed. This wine was so tight for the first 3 hours and then started to show its hand a little by the 4th hour. It came across more like a right bank wine to me. Tons of structure, good mouth feel, dark fruits but mostly hidden at this point. The lack of fruit showing through was my biggest disappointment. My only bottle, but would like to have waited many more years before opening. Still wondering if the Sommelier screwed up the revealing. Should improve immensely with aging, as would my ranking.
