Friday, April 17, 2015 - A dark, dark garnet body; opaque; purple rim. Initially an intense whiff of intense rose and vanillin oak; the intensity of the rose blew off in short time though. Aromas and flavors of blackberry, raspberry, rose petals, forest floor, black pepper, spice and vanillin oak. A big, rich and full bodied zin. Jammy and viscous in the mouth; brambly. Tannins are not totally resolved and leave a very slight acidic sting on the tongue, but the fruit is so intense that this sting is pretty much abated; food is also a big help. I personally prefer this wine over the 2011 Papera Ranch (just a matter of style to me); however, the 2011 is still a delightful wine. This wine is probably not real balanced at this point, but time should be a help here. Excellent structure. Some more time should reward those who hold this wine. I'll try to stay away from remaining bottles for awhile (maybe). A great pairing with a meat pizza.
