Sunday, July 23, 2023 - The 1945 Leoville Poyferre is a truly impressive wine, sporting a vigorous nose, replete with ripe blackberry, nori, ink, black pepper, and chestnut. This has got so much presence, yet for all the impact, the '45 Leoville Poyferre shows a really plush, enveloping character on the nose. The contrast on the palate is a bit of a shock - there's still so much tannin! Then again, should that be surprising? This is 1945, after all.

As an aside, it's funny to taste this on the heels of the 2022 en primeur season, where Leoville Poyferre has made a wine that is quite stylistically similar to the 1945.
