85 Points

Sunday, July 9, 2006 - This takes a long while to compose itself and shed its rusticity. For an hour or more it is a sloppy, messy wine with rough tannic edges and lots of coloring outside the lines. Dark black fruit suggests rich underlying raw material, but the fruit is muted by tannin and generally lacks freshness. Never very expressive aromatically but with enough time the wine comes into better balance with more forward fruit and prominent cedarwood flavors. As a tasting experience this is a fun wine, as wild as a bull!, but a claret at this price point should show more manners and refinement.
