Monday, January 28, 2019 - For many years Malescot was nondescript. I think with the modern style the wines achieved focus- on the black fruit side with a certain wonderful creaminess in the best vintages. For a wine that was supposed to be short lived (for many the initial assessment of the 2003 vintage), this wine is in great shape and drinking beautifully. Retains an acidic note. The Bordelais were allowed to acidify in 2003, and my sense, based on my many years way back of drinking acidified California wines, is that someimes added acid, unliike natural acid, doesn't fully integrate. May be the case here.
This was bottle (bouteille) No. 41862. I think not quite up to bottle (bouteille) No. 31822 which we consumed a few years back. Sad really.
