Sunday, September 20, 2015 - A very different experience from my last bottle, yet that one had been open for the better part of a day. Here the fruit was sweet and rich in the bouquet, with dark currents of dried cherry dipped in liquor, crushed leaves and hints of forest floor. On the palate, soft textures gave way to mature red fruits with mineral and moist earth tones. It finish on darker fruits, with no tannin in sight. This bottle was very enjoyable but seems to be on the decline now.

This was a remarkable bottle at 40-years-old and still showing the dark soil, crushed stone and mineral character of Vigna Rionda with dried flowers and red berry fruit. It was feminine and perfectly resolved on the palate with that saline-minerality which I often find in this vintage, offset by tart, dried berry. The finish slowly tapered off with lingering minerals and dry flowers. This still has life in it and was opened for over eight hours before the last glass was poured.
