Monday, March 31, 2008 - Audouzed six hours in advance then decanted an additional 3 hours. Another great young Monte Bello although uncharacteristically a touch oaky here in it's youth. Very Dark, strapping young in color. Aromatically, quite attractive and pleasing and although that hint of oak spice didn't bother me at all (will definitely integrate) it surprised me somewhat as my lengthy experience with Monte Bello has not frequently provided this, maybe because I only occasionally get to them this young. That sweet oak tint follows through on the palate (surprised me even more) but is in balance with the impressive amount of mountain grown cabernet fruit and the oh-so-well integrated tannins. This continued to improve throughout the evening with the finish becoming longer and more sophisticated and the very well integrated tannins somewhat drying on the very back end. Overall, a top vintage of MB and one which should age fabulously for 20+ years.
