94 Points

Thursday, January 21, 2016 - Some very geeky wines (Jeff Kings): This is interesting. I had never heard f the winery, but a while back, I read David Schildknechts note on it. An amazing note, followed by a 97 point score. That is pretty rarefied air for David. I found a bottle for about $90, and decided to buy it and wait for a good time to open it. About a year later (yesterday), my friend Jeff K and I got together to drink it. Jeff is certainly geeky enough to be into a wine like this as well. This is a blend of 22% Sciacarellu, 18% Niellucciu, 15% Carcajolu-Neru, 15% Montaneccia, 12% Morescono, 10% Morescola, 8% Aleatico on vines over 50 years old planted on granite in Corsica.
While, I am a bit shy of 97, I can see going there just on how interesting this wine is. Perhaps it is just that different that I am not able to give it points that ti deserves. Really fascinating and I doubt my tasting note can do it justice. If you have access to the Wine Advocate, I would search out David's note.

It is ruby to light ruby in color. The nose is really great. Powerful yet elegant. Not light nor demur, but in that direction. Ethereal is a great way to describe it. Strawberries, cherries, raspberries, , slight vanilla extract and a bit of smoke. Maybe and ever so slight green tea note. On the palate, this is quite complex. Coming from the cellar, it took some time to open but kept getting better over a few hours. Layers of strawberries and cherries, certainly a charred earth. Each sip more interesting than the next. Very clean, no funk. Bright acidity but wonderful balance. This is not some science experiment though, it is a beautiful wine. That ethereal quality carries thru to the palate. Hard to describe. We had it with just bread, but I think it would be great at the table. Absolutely worth seeking out at least once. These are actually NV wines, but the Lot number indicates that this is the 2011.
