Monday, October 13, 2014 - "2015" Sydney International Wine Show - stewarding notes; 10/11/2014-10/16/2014 (Blue Mountains, NSW): {screwcap, 14.5%} I gather this is extremely expensive; it certainly tastes that way, with deep-chested spicy aromas, liquorice, blackberry; classic warm-climate Oz shiraz which stops short of smelling port-like; the palate offers plenty of vanilla and chocolate flavours in addition to the aromas; it also avoids toppling over into the ‘dead-grape’ style of wine which is so popular (intentionally or otherwise) among those who’ve chased the extremes of Robert Parker’s apparent palate prejudices. This is full-bodied, with medium powdery tannins, with balanced oak, a lots of mid-palate presence, medium acidity and a medium/long dry finish. The style is edging towards extreme, sure, but this is still a pretty impressive powerhouse shiraz which deserves a decade’s cellaring to see what happens. Very sybaritic indeed.
