Wednesday, July 22, 2015 - We don't get much chance to taste a California Viognier, but when we do we can rest assured the producer is committed and enthusiastic about the varietal, or else they would not bother. This is serious Viognier. They don't mention much about the winemaking process, but I will bet some of this wine has seen neutral oak barrels. The color is clearish golden. The nose has wet shale with lemon and grapefruit. The mouthfeel is really generous without being flabby. The acid is super crisp but at the same time civilized. There is a lifted brown spice component. The finish has more acid than any Viognier I have ever tasted. I think we opened this way too soon. This wine has at least 10 years before it is mature.
