Sunday, February 4, 2007 - Cherry, sandalwood, Chinese 5-spice, bright acid, a bit of booze. Suave, but still somehow disjointed. It seems that the bottle showcases either (1) great fruit somewhat undone by the winemaking, or (2) average fruit manipulated by the winemaking. In truth, this amateur cannot tell. I can say that I miss nuances which suggest, to me, a great wine. The mid-palate shows deep rich fruit, but fruit without much differentiation. I miss layers of flavors which make me question what it is that I am tasting. The finish is clean and bordering on lingering, but it doesn't quite make the impression it should. Solid, well-made, but not quite what I think of when I think "impressive."
