85 Points

Saturday, July 25, 2015 - Deep ruby and nicely aromatic, this medium-bodied Merlot fails to follow through on the palate. Aromas of black cherries, tree bark, clove and coriander are mirrored by similar flavors. Unfortunately, the flavors reside in an acerbic frame with medium-weight, coarse tannins. The alcohol (listed as 14.5%) is reasonably well-integrated but the middle palate is thin and the finish is medium-length only by virtue of its lingering astringency. This pricey Merlot is not worth its sticker. If you own it, there is no harm in giving it some cellar time, as it is currently not particularly enjoyable and it may just "fill-in and round out" for those with patience. However, it is also important to point out that this wine may simply never provide the kind of pleasure that one would expect from this producer. Drink 2017-2022.
