Saturday, March 8, 2008 - Excellent new world Chard, drank at Nicolas, Rachel's donation. Pale straw colour, very oaky nose at first, but with tons of beautiful fruit aromas that balanced it out - candied pineapple and citrus, lemony scents especially. Very linear in the mouth, with an unsually savoury character on the the front of the tongue, almost preserved sour-plum like, followed by a flush of apricot and then butterscotch from the oak and a good long finish with some minerality. This was big, but good acid throughout kept it fresh. It got better with time on the glass - one of the few wines that should be decanted I think. I enjoyed this very much. Slightly too new world and coarse for me, but as non super-pricey Burgs go, this was about as good as you can get.
