Friday, December 22, 2023 - **Fully resolved and fully Bordeaux. I have a hard time parting ways with wines like this from my cellar. The whole 1982 stamping is so mysterious and sexy and has delivered so many mind bending wines over time. I go back thinking that it will never die. Unfortunately, I think that soon we will be at a point when these will be far prettier to look at than drink. This is where wine becomes art.
Meanwhile, cedar chest, fine barnyard and old books, melted red fruit and a soft cedar laden and caressing finish that only a historic Bordeaux can deliver. I am willing to close my eyes to the frailty of the finish because I love these so much. The wines of 1982 and 1989/1990 are still the most beautiful specimens of Bordeaux, but fading. Drink!

12/25/2023 7:50:00 AM - I appreciate the insightful comments PT. If I had any '82 wines I'd probably agree. Where do the '09 & '10 vintages stack up for you?

12/26/2023 9:13:00 AM - Well....My wine collection is a reflection of my trust in critics and my trust in the ability to dump them on the secondary market if I grow to hate them. Its deep in 2000/2005/2009/2010. I love the 80's and 90's. Those are my love wines. I still have good amounts of 90's wines and several dozens from the 1980's. I think that the best accessible vintages of my lifetime in Bordeaux have definitely been the 82 and 89. I think that 09 has the appeal of 82/89 in its playful nature, but I dont think it has the backbone. Remember, the wines of 82 were 11.5 to 12.5% in alcohol and the 09's are 14 to 15%...This debate remains in play and who knows who will be right, but life is too short to wait to be right. So I play allot. Across all vintages of Bordeaux. I have found that certain sub-regions are jewels in certain off years. Take 98 in Pomerol and in Pessac/Graves, take 2001/2004 in Saint Emilion/Pomerol and DEFINITELY in Margaux. I think that in the most recent run of "great vintages" the wines of 2016 have amazed me the most and my collection runs very deep in 2015/2016/2018/2019. I think that the 19 is a very very good wine at very reasonable prices. But I would collect 16 all day long...Hope you had a nice christmas
