Community Tasting Note

Friday, June 9, 2017 - Medium lemon-gold color. Intriguing on the nose, with some tropical fruit aromas of pineapple and tangerine, but dominated by piquant floral notes of gardenia and lily, and a slightly reductive smoky/flinty character. Hard to tell if this was oaked or not from the nose because the floral aspects are so strong. As it breathes in the glass, the fruit starts to keep up with the flowers, with a distinct guava aroma coming to the forefront. On the palate, it's immediately clear that this is serious, well-made wine. High flavor intensity, medium bodied, ripe, warm weather tropical fruit profile, exotic floral and spice notes, and here the oak becomes obvious, from both the rich texture and vanilla and cream notes. Moderate acid, maybe just a bit less than I'd like to stand up to the wine's richness. Also maybe a touch too much oak for me on the finish, which is long and continues to deliver the guava flavor but with a tad too much vanilla creme on top.

This is very high quality wine, drinking very well at its age and with the potential to keep developing for some time. Stylistically it's a bit outside of my preferences, but I enjoy it nonetheless.
