Sunday, August 27, 2017 - Burgundy Evening: Meursault and Gevrey side by side (Grabouw, Western Cape): Light, mahogany to a browning rim.
Relatively developed tertiary nose with forest floor, sous Bois, wet veg alongside a tarry note, with dried cranberries and crushed rose petals. Attractive nose, lifted with an appealing perfume.
The entry is juicy with more fruit than expected. It hasn't much definition but has a tingling fresh acidity underneath, pushing the wine forward. Bright, charming wine, perhaps without the nuances one expects from Gevrey. Didn't blow me away.
