Friday, May 15, 2015 - This straw-colored Chardonnay drinks very similar to its 2011 brethren. Green apple, citrus peel, mineral and spice aromas are followed by a medium-bodied, crisply acidic, seamlessly alcoholic (13.5%) palate with flavors which mirror the nose. Despite the fact that this wine is 100% barrel fermented and 10% new oak-aged, it retains a sense of freshness because it has not gone through malolactic fermentation. As such, the oak is nicely balanced with acid and is in no way overbearing. Solid in the middle and concluding with a lengthy crisp finish, this is in the upper-echelon of Napa Chardonnay. It should be at its best over the next 4-5 years. Drink now-2020.
