Friday, July 3, 2015 - P&p. Smells great, with some real depth; combination of ocean brine/shellfish/seaweed, ginger, fresh pear, and pine needle. Similar on the palate; wonderfully oceanic/briny/saline/stony/mineral, accented by herbaceous pine needle, pear, and gingery-peppery spice, with good cleansing acidity, and some gently astringent bitterness (grapefruit? quinine?) developing toward the finish. Highly refreshing and thirst quenching, and at the same time fairly serious, complex stuff. Some silkiness to the texture, but not as creamy as I would expect from four years on lees; in any case, the body adds interest but is light enough not to interfere with the extreme drinkability. No food necessary; this makes a great aperitif on a warm summer evening. Very nice!
