Wednesday, May 16, 2007 - Jancis Robinson reports that Alion moved back toward a more traditional style with the 2000. The '99 is definitely international style. Hard to identify as tempranillo. Very dark and dense. Sufficient acid to balance the intense and concentrated dark fruit flavors, but way, way over-oaked. Lots of vanilla. Not unpleasant, but not especially complex either. I didn't get any of the animal nuances that JR reported in a recent tasting note. Basically, a wine I'd drink on occasion if it was about one-fourth the price and there was nothing else good to choose from.
