Friday, June 29, 2012 - Another value priced Pinot Noir, Italian style. By that I mean, here comes the tart red cherry taste, and bracing acidity, regardless of the varietal. Not all bad by, no means, just different. On the nose, and at first on the palate, I get maraschino cherry. The color is more like Chianti than Pinot. The nose is very cherry of all sorts. There is a grainy acidity as soon as it crosses the lips. There is almost none of the earthy barnyard flavors we associate with Pinot Noir. As it settles toward the finish, it gets more Pinot like. Gritty little tannins. Not much oak. Falls off on the finish, but though not typical for the varietal, would work really nicely with some cheese. I might even hazzard to guess this may taste better with a little chill.
