Monday, December 16, 2019 - Perfectly satisfactory mature Bordeaux that offers restrained enjoyment rather than any hedonistic indulgence. (Basically, it's a Lanessan, but > 40 years out.) Modest nose of pencil shavings and sous-bois that reminded me more of a men's cologne (in a good way) than wine. On the palate, some notes of acidic red fruit (cranberries), earth and tobacco, with soft tannins, and balanced acidity. No acetic notes at all, so this is not yet in any real decline. A modest intellectual pleasure that nicely accompanies a winter meal, but it helps to be a fan of aged Bordeaux (from non-elite châteaux) to appreciate its charms. As a < €19 (net) auction purchase, it was a worthy buy.
