Monday, September 30, 2013 - The wine pours a rusty red color with a brick orange rim. It has thin legs so I'm not expecting too much sugar or alcohol here. On the nose, there is a little funk, followed by some peppers, miso and strong notes of leather, mushrooms, tobacco smoke and hay. Sadly there isn't much fruit here. On the palate, the wine is quite silky and the tannins melded effortlessly into the wine. However, as with the nose, the wine is almost devoid of the fruit. In fact, the wine is slightly green. Despite its shortcomings, this Lynch-Moussas still boasts a captivating taste of mushrooms, fermented black beans, lead pencil shavings and leather. There is a remarkable acidity in the end as well. Not the strongest showing of what a Grand Cru Pauillac can achieve.
