Wednesday, June 14, 2023 - Enjoyed over two evenings, the 2000 Le Fleur de Bouard far outperformed expectations. Still dark in color and resembling a just-released wine, this was a showcase of beautiful dark Merlot fruit. Time has rounded the tannins and added subtle tertiary notes (forest floor, mostly), but this is still drinking on its Merlot fruit. Not the last word in complexity, but there's no denying the rich dark fruit so nicely balanced by acidity. That this wine was $45 is why I am looking at Bordeaux in a new light. So glad I have 7 more.
