2011 Dylan's Ghost The Beast

Community Tasting Note

Likes this wine:

Sunday, July 19, 2015 - Black cherry and violet hued, Aaron Pott's stunning 2011 Dylan's Ghost The Beast is concentrated, inky and plush. The perfumed, literally intoxicating nose is an intense cornucopia of red & black fruits (blackberry, black cherry, red plum, pomegranate and raspberry) and flowers (violets, roses, and lilies). To the palate add baking spice, wet clay, cocoa powder, red licorice, Cuban tobacco, nonpareils, and freshly-worked leather. Made from nearly equal parts Cab Franc, Malbec, and Petite Sirah, "The wine," as sommelier Charles Leung says, "screams Stags Leap District." Fruit-forward, with medium body, medium acid, and soft tannins. The only caveat is a shortish finish, which while not unpleasant, strikes me as a caution with regard to cellar-worthiness. Also, in my experience, the wine did not improve with decanting. Nonetheless, I'm so glad I opened this (for my brother-in-law), and I look forward to opening another -- when I feel like wowing someone. 14.4% abv. Drink now!
