Thursday, April 27, 2006 - One of the finest bottles of wine I have ever had. Sure its pretty easy to get seduced by a wine you've opened that's 64 years old, but even if this were in a blind tasting I would still have loved it. For my taste there is nothing better than a aged Rioja. It somehow combines the characteristics of a Barolo (dense, rich, full-bodied, complex, and earthy with flavors of truffles, violets, fruit, licorice) with a Red Burgundy (undergrowths, truffles, soil, fruits such as blackcurrant/cassis).
Old Riojas are just wonderful and extremely food friendly.
Most remarably about this 1942 R. Lopez de Heredia Bosconia is that the Bodega released it last year!..
I know a lot a Spanish wines have suffered poor storage and shippment, but not this Bosconia.
Very expensive but very memorable.
A great wine made by one of the last makers of traditional non- fruit forward Riojas.
